Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-9000 is primarily contained by walls surrounding the main entrance on Shmidta Island. All other entryways discovered are to remain sealed. Any and all unauthorized persons attempting to enter SCP-9000 are to be physically restrained and moved to an outside containment area. Upkeep of the current barrier is top priority, and a minimum of two personnel are to be present at all times for upkeep and security.
No exploration or testing of SCP-9000 is allowed without express permission from the O5 Council. Permission from the O5 Council requires an overwhelming majority of the Council to vote in favor. Any and all persons entering are to be deemed missing, presumed dead.
Archived Containment Procedures (06/21/1966): SCP-9000 is to be routinely explored and sampled. Exploration parties will establish forward operating sites in junctions every 20km. Armed support teams are to accompany these parties in anticipation of hostile encounters.
SCP-9000 is under the strict purview of Project NEWHOME. Area-56 is used as a staging ground for all explorations into SCP-9000.
Description: SCP-9000 is a subterranean superstructure. Multiple entrances to SCP-9000 have been discovered worldwide. These entrances are marked by significantly lower Hume levels compared to the surrounding area. Attempts to enter SCP-9000 without a preexisting entrance always end in failure, with molten rock found where SCP-9000 should be.
SCP-9000 consists primarily of interconnecting tunnel networks. The tunnels are 1.7m (69in) tall and 1m (40in) wide with slight variations. Major nexuses, or junctions, of these networks can be found on each continent and under each ocean. Occasionally, these tunnels open up to larger chambers, with 50 of these chambers found to date. There is also evidence of tunnels being caved-in or imploded.

SCP-9000's primary entrance was originally discovered by the Foundation in 1891 on Shmidta Island, Russia. Early exploration of SCP-9000 was limited, with most of the expedition parties sent into SCP-9000 being declared missing. Following the 7th Occult War and the refinement of Kant counters.Paratechnology that measures the Hume levels of a given area, a unit by which the stability of reality is tracked., several more entrances were discovered worldwide, with major entrances found in Pakistan, Mexico, Iceland, and China. SCP-9000 was left mostly unexplored until 1955.

Abstract: Project NEWHOME was commissioned by the O5 Council as a strategic response to rising Cold War tensions. The project sought to identify, secure, and adapt anomalous environments as long-term Foundation facilities independent of national oversight.
Project History: Following the 7th Occult War, both NATO and Warsaw Pact-aligned governments began applying pressure on the Foundation to provide direct support. Denial of these requests resulted in escalating threats against Foundation sites within their territories, including the implication of hostile takeover.
The O5 Council determined that neutrality was necessary, but the Foundation still needed to keep a presence in these territories. Project NEWHOME was commissioned to tackle this issue.
In 1960, SCP-9000 was marked as an object of interest by Project NEWHOME. The global entrances to the anomaly, plus its difficulty to access, made it a prime candidate for potential Foundation sites. Area-56, an AWD.Department of Anomalous Weapons Development testing site, was chosen as the staging ground for investigations into SCP-9000.

Explorations conducted by Project NEWHOME began in 1960, with support from AWD and the Department of Geology. Zhikai Gao and Adonna Tanni were named as the Heads of Operations.
SCP-9000 Exploration Log 1

[Everest, Gao, Tanni, and Maximovna stand at the entrance to SCP-9000. Strong winds blow in from the coast. Behind them is a caravan made up of staff from PROJECT NEWHOME, the Department of Geology, and deployed members of MTF Zeta-9 ("Mole Rats").]
Dr. Zhikai Gao: Have any of your men gone in there yet?
Dr. Felipe Everest: [shrug] Most of the 9000 exploration has been from the new entrances discovered elsewhere. But, none of them are as big as this one.
[Dr. Valeriya Maximovna pulls out a map from her coat pocket.]
Dr. Valeriya Maximovna: Maps only marked out 200m from the entrance, but judging from tunnels in Europe and China, there should be a junction close by to the South.
Dr. Gao: Well, let's get moving. Everything sorted back in Area-56?
Dr. Everest: If they don't hear back from us in two weeks, they'll mark us MIA.
Dr. Gao: Alright, let's go.
[The caravan enters SCP-9000. The tunnel walls are smooth, metallic, and faintly warm to the touch. The distant sound of gears grinding echoes faintly. The expedition party switches on headlamps.]
Dr. Adonna Tanni: The temperature's higher than expected. About 28°C and climbing. That's not geothermal heat.
Dr. Maximovna: [running her hand along the wall] No striation, no joints, no tooling marks. This isn't stone. It's poured, or… grown, maybe?
[They proceed 150m inward. The tunnel veers downward, a consistent slope. The grinding sound becomes louder, interrupted with irregular knocking noises. Eventually, the party arrives at an intersection. Four tunnels branching out symmetrically. The floor is coated in a thin layer of dried black residue. The layer cracks under the party's footsteps, exposing the original floor underneath.]
Dr. Gao: This isn't a junction. Way too small. And [cracking] dirty?
Dr. Maximovna: Sample time. [kneels, scraping material into a vial.]// Feels wet. Could be organic.
Dr. Tanni: [frowning] Smells awful. Like burnt hair.
[As they prepare to continue southward, Everest notices faint scratches on a tunnel wall.]
Dr. Everest: Wait a sec. Lights here.
[They shine headlamps. The etchings resemble geometric patterns: concentric circles intersected by triangles. Some are half-erased or covered by the same black residue on the floor.]
Dr. Maximovna: Definitely not natural. Looks manmade.
Dr. Tanni: Could be older Foundation exploration attempts.
Dr. Gao: Catalog it. We'll come back with imaging equipment.
[The expedition continues down the southern tunnel. After ~300m, the path opens into a large chamber. The ceiling arches overhead. Dozens of vertical pipes extend from the floor into the darkness above. The grinding noise is the loudest here, now joined by rushing fluid sounds.]
Dr. Tanni: …Pipes. Hundreds of them.
Dr. Maximovna: [flashing a light up] Can't see where they lead. Ceiling's way too high for the depth we're at.
[One pipe lets out a sudden burst of hot vapor, startling several staff. Gao steadies them.]
Dr. Gao: Log pressure discharge. Nobody touch the pipes directly.
[A section of the chamber floor is collapsed. Hundreds of layers of pipes crisscross the space underneath, a faint red light illuminating it from somewhere below.]
Dr. Gao: Mark this chamber as Junction Alpha. It'll be a good place to start mapping from. We'll return with equipment to set up a forward camp.
[The party withdraws. As they re-enter the southern tunnel, a deep metallic groan reverberates through the structure, like shifting machinery. Dust and flakes of metal fall from the ceiling]

SCP-9000 Exploration Log 2
Date: 8/14/1960

[BEGIN LOG]
[Junction Alpha. Portable lamps are fixed to tripods, illuminating the lower portion of the chamber in white light. Tents litter the chamber. Staff from Project NEWHOME move between the tents, carrying sample containers. Several Zeta-9 members secure the perimeter.]
Dr. Gao: Better already. Two days in and we've got ourselves a camp.
[Maximovna kneels beside one pipe, placing a sensor against its surface. The device clicks rapidly.]
Dr. Maximovna: Same as the others. 29.8°C then down to 27°C. It's rhythmic.
Dr. Gao: Circulation. Like it's pumping something.
Dr. Tanni: Or venting pressure. Which would make it dangerous to tamper with.
[Dr. Everest leans closer, jotting notes in a small book.]
Dr. Everest: If it's cycling heat and fluid… it's an active system. A system that, probably, runs on its own, buried under every continent… Imagine what we could do with infrastructure like this.
[One Zeta-9 scout approaches, beckoning. The group follows him down a side passage. They stop at a pipe protruding from the wall, dislodged by a brown bulbous shape. The surface twitches faintly.]
Dr. Maximovna: That's new. Definitely organic.
[She moves to scrape it with a scalpel. Dr. Tanni grabs her arm and stops her.]
Dr. Tanni: Whoa, hold on. If it's alive, we don't know how it'll react.
Dr. Gao: It's fine, continue.
[Dr. Maximovna shrugs off Dr. Tanni and scrapes the bulge. Underneath the surface is a red, fibrous tissue. It twitches again.]
Dr. Everest: [quietly, to himself] If it's bio under there, maybe it works like an animal… harder to adapt…
Dr. Gao: Maybe there's more stuff like this down this path? Grab some equipment and let's go.
[The team grabs packs and heads deeper. Roughly one kilometer in, they reach a collapsed chamber. Jagged slabs of alloy and stone have fallen inward. Between the debris, fossilized bones are visible, warped and partially fused into the pipework.]
Dr. Maximovna: Fossils. And the pipes have grown right through them.
[A low thrum begins underfoot, steady and rhythmic. Expedition lamps flicker briefly. Several Zeta-9 soldiers raise their rifles. Hot vapor leaks from a crack in a nearby pipe, carrying a burnt, metallic odor.]
Zeta-9 Sergeant: Sir, it doesn't feel safe. We should head back.
Dr. Gao: Just a little further. Maybe—
Dr. Tanni: We've seen what we need. It's safer to just head back.
[As they turn to leave, one pipe bursts with a sharp hiss, spraying dark fluid across the chamber floor. The team recoils. Dr. Tanni covers her nose against the stench.]
Dr. Tanni: That's exactly what I meant. We shouldn't be here any longer.
Dr. Everest: [watching the fluid pool] Interesting… It's not oil, but… if this what is circulating throughout 9000…
[Dr. Everest reaches down and collects some of the fluid into a vial, quickly running back to follow the rest of the party.]

SCP-9000 Exploration Log 3
Date: 11/23/1960
Parties Present:
- Dr. Felipe Everest, Area-56 Assistant Director
- Dr. Zhikao Gao, SCP-9000 Expedition Head
- Dr. Adonna Tanni, SCP-9000 Expedition Head
- Dr. Valeriya Maximovna, Geology Liaison
[BEGIN LOG]
[The party enters a massive vaulted chamber. Portable lights only illuminate a fraction of it. Its floor a mix of alloy plates and layers of fused pipework. Several pipes descend from the ceiling like columns, thicker than the others.]
Dr. Tanni: Jackpot! This is what we've been looking for!
Dr. Gao: Magnificient. I've never seen a space this large inside the network. Where are we?
Dr. Maximovna: Two kilometers south from Junction Gamma…. Somewhere under Ukraine. Site-67 would be close by.
[Footsteps echo as the party walks deeper into the chamber. The sound of machinery is faint but constant.]
Dr. Everest: [grinning] This is it. If we're serious about NEWHOME, this chamber could house an entire Site. Containment chambers, living quarters, everything you'd need.
Dr. Tanni: We still don't know if SCP-9000 is safe for longterm habitation, though.
Dr. Everest: And what about the Junctions? Are those not "longterm habitation?"
Dr. Tanni: Alpha's only been around for a couple months, and no one except for us have stayed under here for more than a week.
Dr. Gao: She has a point. We don't know what a longterm stay could do to someone here. And we don't know if these chambers are stable. We keep seeing collapsed floors. Maybe that's a sign?
Dr. Everest: [scoffs] We'll make it safe. Engineering could plate the walls, reinforce the floors. It'll be better than any bunker NATO or the Soviets could ever dream up.
[The team moves further into the chamber, where several of the larger pipes converge. One section is collapsed into a shallow basin, exposing dozens of smaller pipes woven like veins. A faint pulsing glow is visible deep below. Dr. Maximovna kneels at the hole.]
Dr. Maximovna: That's not light reflection. Something's generating that glow.
Dr. Gao: Could be a power source. Could be waste heat.
Dr. Tanni: Or a warning sign.
Dr. Everest: Well, let's find out.
Dr. Tanni: Felipe—!
[Dr. Everest crouches near a pipe junction, brushing away brittle residue. His hand presses against a weak section of alloy. The surface flexes slightly under pressure, and a deep metallic groan resonates through the chamber. Several staff shout as dust rains from above. The floor trembles.]
Zeta-9 Sergeant: Movement! Chamber integrity's failing!
[One of the pipe-columns buckles, sending a thunderous echo through the space. Smaller pipes snap free from the ceiling, clattering to the ground. Staff scramble back to the entry tunnel.]
Dr. Gao: Everyone out! Now!
[Dr. Tanni grabs Everest's arm, pulling him up and along with the group.]
Dr. Tanni: What did you do?!

Addendum.9000.2: Collapse Events
On 11/23/1960, at the same time as the events in the above log, Site-67 reported the disappearance of a set of buildings in Chernihov, Ukraine. Mapping showed that these buildings were situated directly above the chamber in SCP-9000. Despite objections from Project NEWHOME, an experiment was conducted to establish if there was a correlation between these events.

[The group stands at the entrance to a chamber near Junction Delta, located underneath Makhamovsk, Kazakhstan. Several Zeta-9 members join the group, carrying thermite charges.]
Dr. Everest: Okay, everything in place?
AWD Staffer: Kant counters are set up here and in Makhamovsk with the other team.
Dr. Tanni: This is an awful idea…
Dr. Everest: Set the charges.
[Zeta-9 sets the thermite charges on an exposed layer of pipes. The group vacates the chamber, standing at a safe distance in the tunnel.]
Dr. Everest: Alright, detonate it.
