Nicole put her phone aside as she cooked breakfast for her and her daughter, trying to cherish whatever few moments she could get with her child. She slid her daughter's heart-shaped pancakes onto her plate and set them on the table, setting the syrup next to them.

Nicole gave her phone a stink eye. She put her plate down next to her daughter's. It was the same meal she'd eaten every morning for as long as she could remember, scrambled eggs and bacon. She poured two cups of orange juice and sat down.

"Jackie," Nicole shouted. "Food's ready!" She smiled softly as she heard the pitter-patter of her daughter running down the stairs to join her. She turned around to see Jackie enter with a bright smile, dragging her backpack behind her. Jackie climbed up onto the chair and immediately began devouring her pancake. Nicole chuckled and began eating her breakfast at a reasonable pace.
"You know," Jackie said, in between wolfing down pancakes. "Ahwi says you really shouldn't eat meat. It's really mean to the animals you eat! Fruits and veggies are better for you anyway."
Nicole let out a deep breath before responding. Ever since the Foundation has allowed SCP-7739 - "Ahwi" - to talk with her daughter as a reward for good behaviour, Jackie had just been parroting everything that deer said to her. Of course, they'd set the whole thing up with her consent, regardless of how hesitant she was to give it, but it was something she regretted in moments like this.
"Jackie," Nicole started. "A lot of people eat meat, and that's okay. It's not wrong to do that, alright?"
"But what about the animals? It hurts them!"
"I-" Nicole stopped, not sure how to argue against that. She just sighed and said, "Why don't you go and put your shoes on? I'll walk you down to the bus stop."
"Mmm, ok!" Jackie finished her orange juice and hopped out her seat, running out to go grab her shoes. Nicole groaned, rubbing her temples. She got up and grabbed her phone, checking her messages.
