At approximately 19:40, Site-3 security notified me that the storage locker containing AO-XXXX had been opened outside scheduled research hours. No authorization had been filed for testing or transfer.

Upon reviewing the access logs, the locker had been opened several times over the past year using credentials belonging to Junior Researcher Kiran Bennett. I authorized a search of their office and nearby offices.

At 20:05, I located Bennett inside their office in Research Wing C. AO-XXXX was present on Bennett's desk. Bennett appeared visibly agitated upon my entry. When questioned regarding the object, Bennett initially claimed they had intended to conduct "further documentation" regarding the ring. No testing request or documentation work order had been submitted.

Bennett repeatedly attempted to handle AO-XXXX during questioning and expressed concern that the object might be "misplaced" if returned to general storage. Bennett also suggested the item would be "safer with [them]." Given the absence of approval and Bennett's increasingly defensive demeanor, I informed them that AO-XXXX would be returned to containment immediately. Bennett objected and attempted to prevent me from grabbing the item. No physical altercation occurred; however, Bennett's behavior escalated to the point that I had to notify Security.

AO-XXXX was recovered from Bennett's desk at 20:12 and returned to its assigned locker without further complication. Security escorted Bennett to temporary holding.

Note: Following review, Bennett's actions were determined to constitute a violation of containment protocol and Foundation Code of Conduct. Upon recommendation from Specialist del Toro, Bennett's employment with the Foundation was terminated effective 12/05/2011. - Site Director Albert Ezekiel.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be stored within an item locker at Site-3 Containment Storage Wing B. The locker is to remain locked except during approved examination or maintenance procedures.

Personnel handling SCP-XXXX must be accompanied by at least one other individual. Direct visual inspection should be limited to brief intervals if possible. Personnel are advised to avoid prolonged interaction with SCP-XXXX.

Requests for extended study must be approved by the Site-3 Containment Head, Martin del Toro.

Object prior to containment

Description: SCP-XXXX is a gold ring measuring 2.7cm in diameter and consisting of three concentric bands. The outer band remains fixed, while the two inner bands rotate independently. Each band contains engraved letters and symbols belonging to no known language. No memetic or cognitohazards have been detected in the engraved symbols.

SCP-XXXX exhibits a mild psychological effect on individuals who view or handle it for extended periods. Affected individuals display increased curiosity in SCP-XXXX, heightened interest in valuable materials or property, and an urge to repeatedly handle or inspect the object. Subjects exposed to SCP-XXXX typically attempt to retain possession of it for extended periods of time. These effects appear to diminish within 2—5 minutes once an individual is separated from SCP-XXXX.

Addendum.XXXX.1: Site-3 Memo

Following Incident Log AO-XXXX-01, Site-3 administration issued the following memo:

NOTICE REGARDING PSYCHOLOGICAL ANOMALIES

Many SCP objects contained by the Foundation are capable of manipulating and altering human minds. Many of these objects, such as SCP-XXXX or SCP-5340, are classified as Safe. This designation does not mean they are safe for handling. These psychological effects, however minor, may contribute to lapses in judgment if containment procedures are not followed. Personnel assigned to handle objects with these effects are reminded to exercise appropriate caution and adhere strictly to containment procedures. If at any time a staff member feels uncomfortable interacting with an object exhibiting mind-affecting properties, they are encouraged to defer the task to a senior staff member.

Failure to follow these procedures may result in containment breaches, risk to your life and the lives of others, and/or administrative action.
