Viv sat in the commons area, typing up a report on her laptop. Day was expecting an AAR for the bugs' last mission, an AAR that Viv had completely forgotten about until about 15 minutes ago. She heard the door open as she started a new paragraph.
Kat patted Viv's back as she passed by her, sitting on the other side of the small table. Viv smiled at her. Before she could say anything, her nose caught the faint smell of cigarettes.
"You still smoke?"
Kat offered an embarassed smile and nodded. "One habit I could never quit."
Viv laughed softly at Kat's smile. "I think it's secretly a requirement to get anywhere in this place. Site-01 must reek of it."
Kat laughed, a pleasant sound. "Everytime I see Day, he has a fresh carton. I fear the next big thing he's gonna do is be in a lung cancer textbook."
Kat stood outside Viv's quarters, tapping her foot impatiently. It was already 4pm, and their reservation was at 5pm. Area-34's a bit shy of an hour outside of the city, so if she took any longer, they could lose out on this reservation. And Kat worked really hard to get this reservation. Kat took a deep breath and turned to Viv's door. Just as she was about to knock, the door slid open.
Kat and Viv ran down the hallway, the red alarms illuminating their path.
"Come on!" Viv said, holding on tight to Kat's hand as she pulled her along. "Day said there was a saferoom up he—"
The wall infront of them burst open, a wave of heat emanating from it and knocking them to the ground. A large, muscular man stepped through the breach. He looked around for a moment before landing on the two women. His face twisted into a snarl.
"Jailors! The Miracle Liberation Front has come to topple your evil!"
The pair quickly scrambled to their feet. They narily avoided a punch from the man, the poor concrete underneath them taking the hit.
Kat dragged Viv along as they ran from the man. "Miracle Liberation Front? I thought this was an Insurgency attack."
"Maybe that's what this cell calls themselves?" Viv offered. She looked behind her to see the man barreling towards them, still screaming about Jailors.
Viv laughed, shaking her head. She grabbed a piece of cake and ate it. A bit of the frosting came off, landing on the edge of her mouth.
Kat sighed
The Sylvan Queen let out a deep laugh. She smiled, running her blue tongue along her teeth. "Careful, Doctor. Flattery can get you… everywhere."
"I—…" Syr Summers looked over at her squire, an uncharacteristic look of uncertainty darkening her face.
It was a Foundation Conference. Akabi had been sent as a representative of the Parapsychology's European Branch. Despite that, she wasn't the best at English. She had assumed French would be the lingua franca, but she should've expected more from an organization originating in the States. Still, she knew just enough of the language to survive.
It was after all the main presentations. Akabi was eating alone in Site-19's mess hall. Despite being well-known back home, she knew no one here. She had assumed this would be the case, but she hadn't prepared for how awful it would feel. Still—
A tap on her shoulder. Akabi turned, seeing an unfamiliar face. She had been one of the presenters. Akabi glanced down at her name tag. 'Dr. Farhat al-Halaby.' Department of Thaumaturgy.
"Do you mind if I join you?" She asked, holding up her plate.
"Um," Akabi stammered. "Më vjen keq—" No, try at least a little. "Sorry, my English is not the best."
Farhat shrugged and sat down anyways. "THAT's okay. I am not good at English either. We're the same-same."
Akabi laughed softly, a faint blush creeping on her cheek. Farhat smiled at this, reaching over to nudge her. "Vous parlez français?"
Jimmy walked into the medbay, surveying the scene. The zone was packed to the brink with beds, each one holding an injured staff member. There were even more injured than beds, with some of them sitting against the wall or just laying there on the floor. Jimmy spotted Akabi towards the far wall. She was standing next to SCP-XXXX-Host's tu— Farhat's vat, looking in. Farhat was inside, unconscious, but the parasite was lashing out, causing the vat to shake with each attack. Jimmy silently approached.
"How many?" Akabi asked. Her eyes never left Farhat.
"We're still counting. Tally so far is 108 injured and 21 dead."
Akabi sighed. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could a commotion broke out. The two turned to look. Handcuffed and being pulled up from her bed was Sanaa. Two men, their uniforms proudly displaying Internal Security's logo, held her by her arms.
"Let me go," she screamed. "I've done nothing!"
Jimmy ran up to them, Akabi following shortly behind him. He grabbed one of the men by his shoulder. "What's going on here?"
"Your Division Director here is a former Insurgent. IS thinks she had something to do with this." He spoke calmly, as if he wasn't holding a potential traitor.
"I had nothing to do with this! I've been with the Foundation for 15 years, why would I do something now?"
